Therapy dogs are trained specifically to work with their handler in a therapeutic setting helping a third party they can: Reduce anxiety in a client, Create a calm environment, Use to model, and teach, Create an enjoyable experience
Who is this course for
School teachers. Physiotherapist. Occupational therapist. Psychologist. Councillor/therapist. Dental practice or Private citizens wanting to provide an animal therapy service . Workplace health and safety are also covered. Together we work out how best to use your dog in your particular setting.
Therapy dog course
This course is designed as a self paced learning experience. Aiming for you to become responsible for a therapy dog within a work setting. You will gain an understanding of the theory of learning and the science behind the training. So becoming more mindful, gain good observational skills, and a sound knowledge of canine communication.
Become a certified team
After completion, you and your dog undergo an assessment to gain certification. The course is a blend of virtual and in-person sessions. You need to believe your dog has a suitable temperament to make it as a therapy dog. Your dog should want to engage in a friendly way with unknown humans. Not to be fearful of novel stimuli environments or noises.

Attain and choose a dog. Pre-assessment of your dog. Basic or specific training skills.
A therapy dog needs to be over one to gain certification, but you may start the course earlier. Note not all dogs are suitable.
Costs
Enrolment-$90 Modules 1-5 are $110 each which includes a Zoom session. Final in person assessment and certification $175 Printed Bandanas $25 Pre-assessment for $135 Exc.Travel (required if you are unsure of your dog’s suitability)
