Who this is for
You may live in a remote area of Queensland and have no access to behavioural trainers. It may be difficult to leave your home. You could do a combination of virtual and in-person sessions. You may use this as research or information on all things dog. Maybe you are thinking about an assistance dog but don’t know where to start.
How does this work
You will need access to Zoom and a camera. We can then communicate and see and share our dogs in action. During training, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and make requests, the trainer can make recommendations. We can use our own dogs to demonstrate skills. Your trainer will guide you and your dog through the steps of training, offering immediate feedback.
How effective is this
Very effective!
Some people really appreciate the flexibility of online training, and find that it works well to be able to train their dogs from their own homes. With step by step coaching to alleviate any issues such as dog to dog reactivity, or training skills. And teaching animal husbandry. Prior to the session you will need to provide information via email about you and your dog.
Pros
Convenient. You can train your dog from the privacy of your own home, with no other dogs to distract your dog or disrupt the process. There is a bubble of just you, your dog, and the trainer. What’s more, you can train on your own schedule, without having to adhere to the limitations of in-person classes.
Cons
Theres nothing quite like being with a trainer who can demo a skill on your dog thereby kick-starting the dogs learning. While you observe then copy. You don’t get to practice with other multiple distractions. The trainer does not get to see your dog to be able to assess their personality and nuances.
